Why are file upload notifications defaulted to Instantly?

I uploaded hundreds of files to an OSF project and it sent a massive number of "Recent Activity" emails to everyone else on the project. I don't believe that they had changed any of their notification settings, so this must have been setup by default (I could be wrong though)? There are some less tech savvy people on the OSF project so I had to walk them through / send an email out with detailed instructions on how to change this notification setting.

Has anyone else experienced this? How have you dealt with this? Especially when adding new collaborators on a project.

IMO the default should be Never but at least Daily would be so much better.
